Gilgo Beach Killings Suspect, Rex Heuermann, Faces Potential New Murder Charges

HEMPSTEAD, New York – Rex Heuermann, the main suspect in the Gilgo Beach killings, may face an additional murder charge in connection to the death of Maureen Brainard-Baines.

Brainard-Baines, a 25-year-old sex worker, went missing in July 2007 after staying behind to meet a client. Her body was found four months later near Gilgo Beach. Officials have identified Heuermann, 59, as the prime suspect in her death.

Heuermann, a former architect, is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, with speculation of potential new charges against him. Unnamed sources have suggested that prosecutors might consider filing new charges, although the reason for his court appearance has not been disclosed.

Last year, Heuermann was accused of killing three other women whose bodies were found on the shore of Gilgo Beach. He pleaded not guilty to the first- and second-degree murder charges in connection with those deaths and has been in custody without bail since his arrest in July.

Brainard-Baines is believed to be the first victim of the “Gilgo Four,” a group of women killed in the area. The case continues to unfold as the investigation into the Gilgo Beach killings continues.
