CLEVELAND, OH – Authorities have arrested a 32-year-old Cleveland woman in connection with the death of her boyfriend, whose remains were recovered from the Huron River several months after he was reported missing.
A grand jury in Cuyahoga County has indicted Dy’mond Vaden on multiple counts, including two counts each of murder and felonious assault. She also faces charges of tampering with evidence, gross abuse of a corpse, and possessing a weapon despite being legally prohibited. The indictment follows a lengthy investigation into the disappearance and death of George Cox Jr., who was also 32.
Cox was initially reported missing by relatives on November 8, 2024. Family members told investigators their last contact with him was several weeks earlier, around October 19, raising immediate concern for his welfare.
Officers assigned to the Cleveland police Missing Persons Unit conducted a welfare check at the home that Cox and Vaden reportedly shared near Bosworth Road and Peony Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the apartment largely abandoned, with little furniture remaining, and what appeared to be blood stains on the floor. Subsequent testing confirmed that the blood belonged to Cox, and Vaden was no longer living at the address.
The case took a turn in May 2025 when two people, while kayaking on a shallow stretch of the Huron River, discovered a body that had been bound with marine-style rope and wrapped in a fitted bedsheet. Authorities from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the call and later confirmed the remains as those of Cox.
Investigators soon linked physical evidence at the scene to the former couple’s residence. The sheet used to wrap Cox’s body matched those previously found in the apartment, according to authorities. Forensic tests further indicated that blood found on items collected from Vaden’s home was a match for Cox.
Additional investigatory work revealed further evidence connecting Vaden to the crime. DNA samples and cell phone data both supported the case against her, officials said, but no further details about Cox’s cause of death have been disclosed at this time.
Police arrested Vaden on July 21, 2025, at a different address where she was staying with 41-year-old Emmanuel McQueen Jr. During the arrest, officers reportedly found a firearm at the scene. McQueen was also indicted for having a weapon despite being legally prohibited.
Cox’s family, who had spent months awaiting answers, was notified of the breakthrough following the indictment and arrest. Authorities say the investigation was comprehensive, involving multiple agencies and significant forensic work to tie the evidence together.
As of Thursday, court records did not specify when Vaden is expected to make her next appearance before a judge. Police said their investigation remains ongoing.
