Gunmen Attack Leaves Four Dead, Three Injured in Pakistan’s Kurram District

Peshawar, Pakistan – A recent violent attack in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has left at least four people dead and three others injured. Gunmen armed with automated weapons opened fire on two passenger vehicles, including a passenger coach and a car, causing immediate casualties, according to District Police Officer Muhammad Imran.

The assailants targeted the vehicles in the Sadda area of the Kurram District, resulting in the tragic loss of lives, including two security personnel and a woman, as well as critical injuries to three others. Following the attack, authorities quickly responded, with police, security forces, and rescue teams mobilizing to transfer the injured to a nearby hospital’s intensive care unit. Dr. Qaiser Abbas, the deputy medical superintendent of Parachinar district headquarters hospital, confirmed the death toll and the condition of the wounded.

Security measures were stepped up in the area, with a search operation launched to apprehend the attackers. However, as of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the violent act. In addition to the attack, Pakistan also experienced an internet shutdown impacting social media platforms, although no direct connection has been established between the shutdown and the violence in the Kurram district.

The attack serves as a sobering reminder of the increasing number of terror-related incidents in the country, with 419 militant attacks and 620 deaths reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone in 2023. As authorities continue their hunt for the perpetrators, the people of Pakistan are left to grapple with the shock and fear instilled by this tragic event.
