Hollywood, California – A retired homicide detective, Tom Small, vividly recalls the horrific scene he encountered in Ashley Ellerin’s Hollywood bungalow. On a fateful night in 2001, Ellerin, a 22-year-old fashion student, was brutally stabbed to death in her home. Small described the crime as one of the most vicious attacks he had seen throughout his career.
Small’s account is part of the true-crime series “Once Upon a Crime in Hollywood,” hosted by Kelly Hyman. The second season of the series delves into the case of Michael Gargiulo, known as “The Hollywood Ripper” and “The Boy Next Door Killer.” The show features interviews with investigators and experts involved in the case, shedding light on the brutal nature of the crimes.
Ellerin, who had dreams of making it big in Hollywood, was found with 47 stab wounds, 12 of which were fatal.
