Homicide-Suicide in Cass County Leaves Four Dead and One Injured

CASS COUNTY, Ill. – A tragic shooting incident in Cass County late Thursday resulted in the deaths of four people and left another fighting for his life. The incident involved a triple homicide-suicide and has shocked the small, rural community.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and several others, responded to reports of multiple deaths in Cass County. They were called to a home in rural Ashland, where a man had been shot. Upon arrival, deputies found a man with a gunshot wound and a woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured man provided information about another related incident, leading the authorities to a residence where they discovered the bodies of two more women. The injured man was then transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, identified as Ronald L. Cobrun, 62, was found by the Jacksonville Police Department inside his vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not provided a motive for the shootings, and autopsies for the three women are scheduled for Monday.
