Houston, Texas – A man and a woman have been charged in connection to the tragic death of twin infants in October 2023, as stated in court documents. Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, both 21 years old, face charges of two counts each of injury to a child-serious bodily injury.
In response to a call, patrol officers from the Houston Police Department arrived at a residence on Linden Creek Lane in the 2100 block where they found Massail and Mirena Vega, the infant twins, unresponsive. The twins’ father, Vega, discovered them in the crib, not breathing. Despite attempts to administer CPR as instructed by dispatch, the premature twins could not be revived and passed away.
Vega, in his statement to the authorities, mentioned that the infants had been agitated through the night, leading him to place them in a bassinet where they eventually fell asleep. Calderon, the mother of the twins, mentioned that she saw the babies the following day but did not disturb them as she had to leave for work. The infants were only five weeks old at the time of the tragic incident.
Post-mortem assessments revealed that the babies had sustained multiple injuries from a blunt object, leading to their untimely demise. Further investigations uncovered neglect on the part of the parents, as it was found that the twins had not received necessary medical check-ups following their premature birth. Calderon later admitted to authorities that the babies had been unwell, but medical assistance was not sought.
Both Calderon and Vega were apprehended on Friday, April 19, without any resistance. Family members of Calderon portrayed her as a devoted mother, while others mentioned incidents of abuse by Vega towards her. Allegations of physical harm aside, investigations revealed signs of malnourishment and old injuries on the twins.
