Bridgend, Wales – Following the deaths of six inmates at HMP Parc between February and March, authorities have made three arrests in connection with the incidents. The deaths have raised concerns about drug-related activities within the prison, as four of the deaths are believed to be linked to drugs, while two are deemed non-suspicious.
South Wales Police confirmed that a 40-year-old man from Birmingham and a 34-year-old woman from Cardiff were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs and money laundering. Additionally, a 34-year-old man from Cardiff was also arrested on suspicion of involvement in the supply of controlled substances. All three individuals have been released under investigation, with the investigation ongoing.
One of the deceased inmates, Cameron Anthony, was found unresponsive during morning rounds by prison staff on March 19. Despite efforts to revive him, he did not survive. The cause of his death remains unknown, pending further tests. However, the assistant coroner for south Wales central expressed suspicions that his death may have been “unnatural,” leading to the opening of an inquest that will be heard by a jury at a later date.
HMP Parc, a category B prison, houses convicted male adult and young offenders, as well as convicted and remand sex offenders. With a capacity of 1,612 prisoners as of a 2019 inspection, it is one of the largest prisons in the UK. The recent deaths at the facility have highlighted the challenges and complexities faced by the prison system in ensuring the safety and well-being of inmates. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and are working to address any issues that may have contributed to the tragic events.
