Investigation Closed into Old National Bank Shooting in Louisville: ATF Ends Probe with No Federal Charges

Louisville, Kentucky – The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has concluded its investigation into the mass shooting at Old National Bank in Louisville, Ky. The shooting occurred the day after Easter, claiming the lives of five individuals and injuring eight others. Among the victims were five employees of the bank: Josh Barrick, Juliana Farmer, Deana Eckert, Tommy Elliott, and Jim Tutt Jr.

ATF Special Agent in Charge Shawn Morrow announced the closure of the investigation, confirming that no federal charges were filed as the individual responsible for the crime is deceased. The ATF, along with the Louisville Metro Police Department, conducted separate investigations into the tragic incident that shook the local community.

LMPD’s investigation cleared Officer Cory Galloway, who fatally shot the perpetrator, stating that his actions were justifiable and not criminal. Officer Nickolas Wilt, who was also at the scene of the shooting, survived a gunshot wound to the head. The ATF confiscated the rifle used in the shooting as part of its investigation and subsequently destroyed it at their National Firearms and Ammunition Destruction Branch in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

In a recent development, a lawsuit was filed against River City Firearms, a firearms dealer in Louisville that sold the weapon used in the mass shooting. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of six victims and survivors, alleges that the dealer overlooked several warning signs when selling the gun. This case is currently pending in Jefferson County, awaiting further legal proceedings.
