Investigation: NIA Denies Unlawful Actions Amid Controversy Over Bhupatinagar Blast Case

New Delhi, India: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) vehemently denied accusations of “unlawful actions” during its investigation into the 2022 blast case in Bhupatinagar, West Bengal. The agency dismissed the controversy surrounding the probe as “unfortunate” and reiterated the legality and legitimacy of its actions as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to a statement released by the NIA, the agency’s team faced a violent attack by an unruly mob when conducting searches in Naruabila village in connection with the blast case. The NIA emphasized that the searches were carried out at five locations with the presence of independent witnesses and CRPF security cover, including lady constables. The arrests made in connection with the case followed all lawful procedures.

In a recent development, a court in Kolkata granted NIA custody of two individuals arrested in connection with the Bhupatinagar blast case until April 10. The arrests came after a NIA team faced an alleged attack by a mob in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal while attempting to arrest two key conspirators involved in the blast that claimed three lives in December 2022.

The City Sessions Court in Kolkata rejected bail petitions from the two accused individuals, sending them into NIA custody for further interrogation related to the blast case. Saturday’s incident has sparked a political dispute, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accusing investigators of assaulting villagers, while the Opposition claims the NIA team was attacked by individuals allegedly backed by the TMC.

The NIA’s firm denial of wrongdoing in its investigative actions underscores the challenges faced by authorities in addressing criminal incidents like the Bhupatinagar blast. The clash of perspectives between the government and the Opposition highlights the complexities surrounding such cases and the need for a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover the truth behind the tragic events.
