Iron River, Michigan Explosion Claims One Life in Incident

Iron River, Michigan – Authorities are investigating a fatal house explosion that took the life of one man in Iron River, Michigan on Saturday night. Deputies from the Iron Mountain Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post, responded to the scene at 820 Cayuga St. in the City of Iron River around 9:30 PM central time.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found the residence mostly destroyed with debris scattered as far as three blocks away. Several fire departments were also called to the scene to search for potential victims, and state troopers from neighboring posts, along with MSP K9 units and the 8th District MSP Fire Investigator, were summoned to assist in the investigation.

Tragically, an 80-year-old man who had recently moved into the home from Florida was confirmed dead as a result of the explosion. At this time, authorities do not suspect any criminal activity, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Iron River City Police is leading the investigation with assistance from the MSP Fire Investigator.

The explosion has left the community in shock, and neighbors are expressing their condolences to the family of the victim.
