LOUISVILLE, KY – Two men from Kentucky have been indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury in connection with a homicide case stemming from last October, when police discovered a man’s body abandoned at a city intersection.
Authorities identified the suspects as Chadwick Fleming, 35, and Davone Collins, 26. Both are charged in the death of 34-year-old Mitchell Jackson, whose remains were located at the corner of 18th Street and West Muhammad Ali Boulevard on October 20, 2024.
According to police, Jackson’s body was found wrapped in sheets, bound with duct tape, and left in the busy intersection. Investigators later determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds.
The investigation led officers to arrest Fleming five days after the body was discovered. Court documents indicate Jackson’s remains had been bundled with garbage bags, zip ties, and duct tape before being discarded in public. Authorities allege Fleming attached the body to the rear bumper of an SUV and dragged it along city streets.
Surveillance footage captured images of Fleming attempting to dispose of the body, according to police records. At one point, the body became detached from the vehicle, prompting Fleming to unsuccessfully attempt to reload it before leaving it at the intersection.
Initially, Fleming faced charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. With the latest indictment, he now faces an additional charge of murder. Fleming is being held at the Louisville Metropolitan Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
Collins has also been indicted on charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse in connection with the case. He was apprehended without incident earlier this week and booked into the same detention facility. Officials have not released specific details about Collins’ alleged involvement or his relationship with Fleming.
Both Fleming and Collins are due for arraignment in Jefferson Circuit Court on July 28.
Authorities have not provided information regarding possible motives in the killing or how the suspects and victim may have been acquainted. The investigation into Jackson’s gruesome death remains ongoing, and police have urged anyone with further information to come forward.
