Kyiv, Ukraine — A ballistic missile strike rocked Ukraine’s capital early Saturday morning, resulting in injuries and damage to several buildings. The attack targeted multiple districts, including Dniprovsky, Desnyansky, and Darnytsky, prompting swift emergency responses.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko confirmed that initial reports indicated at least nine people were injured, with three requiring hospitalization. The State Emergency Service reported growing concerns surrounding civilian safety in the wake of the assault.
In the aftermath, a non-residential building caught fire due to the explosions, and debris fell in open areas, causing damage to nearby windows. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, noted that a kindergarten in the Dnipro district was also hit, underlining the potential risk to vulnerable populations in the city.
As the day progressed, the number of casualties increased. Tkachenko later announced that two individuals lost their lives, including one who succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Emergency services have been deployed to tackle the fires and assess the full extent of the damage, as the mayor conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families.
An air raid alert was issued around 3:51 a.m., indicating a ballistic missile threat. Reports from the region described a series of powerful explosions shortly after the sirens sounded, alarming residents and prompting immediate action from local authorities.
Simultaneously, Russian forces conducted strikes near Kharkiv, which resulted in at least 15 explosions in the suburbs, according to local media reports. Ukrainian Air Force officials earlier warned of increased drone activity in the area, necessitating heightened vigilance.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a rescue worker was killed, and one other sustained injuries following a Russian missile attack on the Petropavlivska community. This incident highlights the ongoing danger to emergency personnel responding during such attacks. A woman also perished, and several others were injured in this incident, as residential properties and vehicles were damaged.
Elsewhere, kamikaze drones targeted the Pokrovska territorial community, resulting in the destruction of a residential building and subsequent fire, though no casualties were reported. In Nikopol, artillery shelling caused a fire in a garage, which emergency services quickly extinguished.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the attacks overnight also included nine Iskander-M ballistic missiles and numerous drones. Ukraine’s defense systems managed to intercept several of these, shooting down four ballistic missiles along with 50 drones before they could reach their targets.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the conflict persists, with threats still present in Ukrainian airspace. Emergency response teams are actively working to mitigate the impact of ongoing assaults, as the nation grapples with the dire consequences of sustained aggression.
