Lake Tahoe, California — Survivors of a devastating storm that struck Lake Tahoe in June are reflecting on the harrowing events that unfolded as strong winds and tumultuous waves sank several boats and claimed eight lives. Eyewitnesses described the weather as erratic, changing drastically within moments, transforming a serene morning on the lake into chaos.
The sea turned violent on June 21, catching many boaters off guard. What began as a calm day escalated rapidly; just hours later, a 27-foot Chris-Craft boat capsized in severe swells, leading to tragedy. The U.S. Coast Guard previously confirmed that two individuals aboard the ill-fated vessel survived, but the storm ultimately claimed eight victims.
Kristofer Kierce, a local boat salvage company owner, witnessed the wreckage and expressed his shock. He described the scene as “like a hurricane had come through,” emphasizing the unexpected ferocity of the wind and waves. Reports indicated that gusts reached between 30 to 45 mph, with swells at times soaring between six and eight feet.
Among the individuals caught in the treacherous weather was Judith Saldivar, who was enjoying a bachelorette party on a pontoon boat in Emerald Bay.
