SEASIDE, CA – A Monterey County man has been found guilty of the brutal murder of his girlfriend’s mother in a violent attack fueled by jealousy over a suspected affair.
Kevin Durran Hart, 47, was convicted of first-degree murder and the use of a deadly weapon in the death of 65-year-old Jackie Robinson, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.
The horrific incident occurred in May when Hart, consumed with rage over an unfounded belief that his partner was unfaithful, attacked Robinson in her home in Seaside.
Prosecutors detailed Hart’s assault, stating he used both his bare hands and a piece of broken glass to kill Robinson. Officers responding to the scene found Hart covered in blood at the victim’s Hamilton Avenue residence, but efforts to revive Robinson were unsuccessful.
On Friday, a jury handed down the guilty verdict, rejecting Hart’s plea of innocence in the grisly slaying. Authorities affirmed that Robinson, described as a beloved community member known for her dedication to her church, met a violent end over what the DA’s office termed “imagined infidelity.”
Robinson remembered in her obituary as a caring woman who spread joy wherever she went and was active within her church, serving as the president of the senior usher board. Her tragic death leaves a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her on the Monterey Peninsula.
With sentencing set for May 7, Hart now faces the prospect of spending a minimum of 26 years behind bars, serving time for a crime characterized by its vicious nature. The court’s decision brings some measure of closure, though the loss of Robinson continues to affect her family and community.
As Hart awaits sentencing, the impact of this senseless act lingers over Seaside, a stark reminder of how jealousy and rage can devastate lives and communities in the blink of an eye.
