Man Fatally Shot by Police in Spring Garden Township During Domestic Violence Incident

SPRING GARDEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. – A police-involved shooting in Spring Garden Township resulted in the death of a man late Friday night, as confirmed by the York County Coroner’s office and state police.

Authorities were summoned to the scene at 11:17 p.m. after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident, involving a man reportedly armed with multiple firearms. The man, identified as 34-year-old Payden Sells from Spring Grove, exited his residence and began firing at officers upon their arrival.

In response to the gunfire, officers returned fire, ultimately fatally striking Sells. Fortunately, no officers or civilians sustained any injuries during the incident, although one officer did suffer minor injuries.

State police have taken over the investigation into the shooting, with all officers who discharged their weapons being temporarily placed on administrative duty pending a review by the district attorney’s office. The York County Coroner’s office was called to the scene at 11:39 p.m., where they found Sells deceased after the encounter.

The incident is believed to have stemmed from a domestic dispute, and multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene. An autopsy is currently being scheduled to determine the exact cause of Sells’ death.

As of Saturday morning, the area where the shooting took place remained cordoned off, with state police officers continuing their investigation on Colonial Avenue in Spring Garden Township. The situation is still unfolding, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
