Maryland man stabs himself and claims he stabbed his 22-year-old girlfriend to death in self-defense

BALTIMORE, MD – A Maryland man faces a first-degree murder charge after authorities say he fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend over the weekend, just a day after she expressed fears for her safety.

Rashard Mack, 23, was arrested Saturday after police responded to a domestic disturbance on Nunley Drive. Officers discovered 22-year-old Taejhiana Walker dead in the residence from apparent stab wounds, according to Baltimore Police.

Inside the home, Mack, who was reportedly also injured, was found seated in a living room chair beside a blood-stained, broken knife blade. The incident followed an unsettling text Walker sent a day before her death, implicating Mack as a potential threat should something happen to her.

After Mack received treatment at an area hospital for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries, he was taken into custody and charged with Walker’s murder.

A probable cause affidavit details Mack’s version of the events, asserting that Walker attacked him with a knife, prompting him to wrestle with her in self-defense. However, preliminary investigations cast doubt on his claims, suggesting his injuries might have been self-inflicted.

Mack alleged that he grasped the knife during the altercation and accidentally broke the blade before resorting to a pair of scissors in the struggle. Investigators, however, believe the evidence indicates he initiated the attack while Walker was defenseless on the bed.

Adding to the grim narrative, Walker’s roommate told investigators that the pair met online in the summer of 2024 and had been romantically involved until she began avoiding his calls earlier this year. Mack’s frustration reportedly escalated, leading to him calling her friends to try to contact her.

The night before the fatal encounter, Mack allegedly lingered near Walker’s car, waiting to confront her. Later, Walker reportedly sent a chilling text to a family member, naming Mack should anything happen to her.

Mack remains in custody at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bond as the investigation continues.
