RISING SUN, MD – A Maryland mother is facing murder and child abuse charges after authorities say her newborn daughter died following a night of heavy drinking and troubling social media posts.
Destiny Faith Chiveral, 24, was taken into custody after her 5-week-old daughter was found dead at a residence in Rising Sun on the morning of December 4. Emergency responders arriving shortly after 9 a.m. discovered the infant had already succumbed, with signs indicating she had been deceased for several hours. Maryland State Police’s homicide unit promptly initiated a full investigation.
Investigators say Chiveral had attended a gathering described as a “girls’ night” at a friend’s home while caring for her infant daughter, identified as K.C. Throughout the late hours, court documents describe how Chiveral posted a series of videos to social media showing herself drinking and vaping. The footage, gathered by detectives, reportedly included scenes of Chiveral struggling with a baby gate and expressing her inebriation, while the baby’s cries can be heard in the background.
Authorities revealed that a bottle of vodka — nearly empty — was located where the party took place. A guest told law enforcement the bottle had previously been almost full. Despite Chiveral’s assertion that she had only consumed a single drink and a shot, police cited digital evidence suggesting much heavier use.
The chilling series of videos — some time-stamped past 1:30 a.m. — appear to show the newborn alive, but authorities noticed details that raised further questions: a framed picture seen upright in the footage was later found hanging askew, suggesting potential disruption in the room where the child was last seen alive.
When questioned by investigators, Chiveral first speculated that her baby might have become trapped in the cushions of a couch. Medical examiners, however, determined the infant died as a result of blunt force trauma, noting bleeding at the back of the brain and additional injuries inconsistent with the explanation given.
Confronted with the autopsy results, Chiveral at first denied harming her daughter and tried to piece together possible explanations. She mentioned a history of sleepwalking while intoxicated and suggested she might have accidentally kicked the infant in her sleep. She also referenced her toddler, previously having been rough with the baby, but police confirmed the older child had not been present that night.
As interrogators pressed further, Chiveral acknowledged, “Nothing I say is going to fix this,” according to court documents. “No matter what, I’m going to be blamed for her death, ain’t I?” she reportedly added.
Chiveral now faces charges including first- and second-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, and child abuse causing severe bodily injury. She remains held without bond at the Cecil County Detention Center. Her next court appearance is set for January 9, 2026.
