BOGALUSA, La. – A 33-year-old man from Bogalusa, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for his involvement in a mass shooting that occurred in May of 2020. Vincent Peters was convicted for federal firearm and drug violations related to the incident, in which 13 people were shot and four seriously injured.
Peters had confessed to the charges in September of the previous year, admitting to being part of an “unauthorized assembly” during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, described as a “Celebration of Life,” resulted in a shootout between two groups, with a total of ten guns fired.
According to the Department of Justice, Peters admitted to firing one of the guns during the incident. A subsequent investigation revealed that he was also involved in the illegal drug trade. As a result, Peters was sentenced to 120 months for the firearm charge, 169 months for the drug charges, and an additional 60 months for possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking crime.
