Memorial Service for Fallen Burnsville First Responders Set for Wednesday Morning

Burnsville, Minnesota – The community of Burnsville, Minnesota, mourns the loss of police officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, along with paramedic and firefighter Adam Finseth, who were tragically killed in a shooting incident earlier this month. The suspect, Shannon Gooden, also lost his life in the incident. The public service to honor these fallen heroes will take place at Grace Church in Eden Prairie on Wednesday morning.

The funeral service will be live-streamed on WCCO-TV and CBS News Minnesota, allowing those unable to attend to still pay their respects. Following the service, a procession route has been arranged, beginning at Grace Church and passing by several significant locations in Burnsville, including the fire station, police department, and a local church.

Due to limited seating and parking at the church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will serve as an overflow location for livestream viewing. The community can anticipate road closures and traffic delays on Wednesday, complicating travel plans for those attending the service or showing support along the procession route.

In response to the overwhelming support from the community, various businesses in the Twin Cities have raised funds to support the families of the fallen first responders. Vigils and processions have been organized to honor the memory of Elmstrand, Ruge, and Finseth, reflecting the deep impact of their loss on the community. The families of the fallen heroes have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.

Authorities are currently investigating the events leading to the fatal confrontation between Gooden and the first responders. As the community comes together to grieve and honor the lives lost, mental health resources and support networks are being provided to those in need during this challenging period.

In times of tragedy, the strength of a community shines through as they come together to support one another and remember the sacrifice made by those who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting others.
