Milwaukee woman tired of husband’s nonsense shoots him in the back

MILWAUKEE, WI – A Milwaukee woman is facing charges of first-degree reckless homicide after authorities say she fatally shot her husband during an argument, claiming she was weary of being demeaned.

Doris Winters, 61, allegedly confessed to police that her husband Aerion Winters, 49, had provoked her for the last time on that fateful May 31 evening.

Reports from the Milwaukee County criminal complaint detail how Doris Winters recounted grabbing her firearm and shooting her husband, expressing exhaustion over the situation. “I know I shouldn’t have shot him, but I’m just tired,” she reportedly told investigators.

Authorities were alerted to the incident at the north side apartment complex located at 95th Street and Brown Deer Road after 10 p.m., where bystanders identified Winters as the shooter.

As officers arrived, Winters was seen discarding a handgun before being apprehended on-site. The gun was subsequently secured by the officers.

During her transport to the police station, Winters echoed her earlier statements to officers, highlighting a derogatory remark her husband made as the breaking point. The altercation unfolded inside Winters’ apartment, where Aerion had been visiting to collect personal belongings, but he was reportedly staying elsewhere.

The argument intensified upon Aerion confrontationally addressing Winters’ mother, crossing a line that escalated the verbal exchange. Witnesses attempted to mediate, but Doris Winters proceeded to fetch a handgun, allegedly affirming its loaded state before firing a single shot into Aerion’s back.

While recounting events to the police, Doris Winters admitted to pulling the trigger when her husband turned his back on her but maintained that she never intended a fatal outcome.
