Minneapolis police are actively investigating a shooting incident that claimed the life of a 21-year-old man and left three others injured inside a local bar on Tuesday night. The tragedy has prompted not only a search for at least one suspect but also a heartfelt plea from the victim’s family for justice and accountability.
DaMarco Fletcher, Jr. was shot multiple times inside the bar and pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, Ericka Wheeler, has been vocal about her grief and has emerged as a determined advocate for answers. She described her son as a bright personality with a smile that could light up any room.
Fletcher, a 2022 graduate of Armstrong High School, was known for his academic and athletic achievements. His mother fondly recalled that he excelled in various sports, including wrestling, basketball, and football. Despite his successes, she emphasized that he consistently aimed to make a difference in the lives of others. As a PCA worker, Fletcher dedicated his time to helping those in need and was in the process of obtaining his real estate license.
Wheeler voiced her frustrations regarding the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, particularly questioning the security measures at the bar where the shooting occurred. She is demanding accountability from both the establishment and the individual responsible for the violence. “I need the establishment to be held accountable, as well as the person who took my son’s life,” she stated. “They should have had more security and done a better job.”
In her pursuit of justice, Wheeler hopes the person who fired the gun will come forward, and she expressed a desire for anyone with information to encourage the shooter to turn themselves in. Anxiety and uncertainty linger in the community as they grapple with the violence that has affected them.
Gloria Brown, Fletcher’s aunt, shared her memories and the impact her nephew had on those around him. She recalled his relentless determination to overcome obstacles and defy expectations. “He didn’t live with limitations because he always believed he could do well,” Brown said.
Fletcher’s family has been informed that he was not the aggressor in the incident, which provides them with a sense of relief amid their devastation. They are now focused on healing and seeking justice for his untimely death. As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful for answers that will lead to a resolution and honor the memory of a young man who aimed to help others as he pursued his dreams.
