Minnesota Police Update Community on Emotional Vigil for 22-Year-Old Shot at Cloquet Super 8

CLOQUET, Minn. – Family and friends gathered in northern Minnesota Wednesday night for an emotional vigil, honoring the life of 22-year-old Shellby Trettel, who was tragically killed while working at the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet on Monday night. Along with Trettel, another man, Patrick Roers, 35, was also a victim of the shooting, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

According to authorities, the gunman, whose identity was not immediately revealed, also took his own life at the scene. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, leaving many questions unanswered for the victims’ loved ones.

Ellen Roers, Patrick Roer’s sister, fondly remembers her brother as an affectionate and caring individual. Describing him as “loveable” and recalling his plans to come home for the weekend, Ellen emphasized Patrick’s infectious personality and willingness to go above and beyond for his loved ones, noting that he was in Cloquet for his first week at a new job.

The loss of Patrick Roers has deeply affected his family, with Ellen urging others to honor and celebrate their loved ones while they are still present. An online fundraiser has been set up to help cover funeral expenses, with the focus being on remembering Patrick for the way he lived, rather than how he passed.

The tragic shooting at the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet has left the community devastated, with both Shellby Trettel and Patrick Roers being remembered for their kindness and loving nature. As the investigation into the shooting continues, the community remains united in remembering and honoring the lives of those who were lost.
