Missouri woman shoots her ex-husband and the biological father of her children on the same day

AURORA, MO – A Missouri woman was sentenced to life in prison without parole Tuesday after admitting to a deadly multistate shooting spree earlier this year, targeting the fathers of her children and resulting in two deaths.

Thirty-one-year-old Taylor Santiago of Aurora pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, and child endangerment for the events on January 23. These attacks were investigated by officials in Missouri and Arkansas, ultimately leading to Santiago’s arrest after she turned herself in to law enforcement.

According to authorities, the spree began when Santiago shot and killed her estranged husband, Troy Huffman, in her Aurora apartment. Aurora police were alerted when Santiago called them from their parking lot, confessing to the murder and leading officers to discover Huffman’s body at her home.

Before this, Santiago had traveled to Arkansas, where she reportedly shot the father of another one of her children and a woman he was dating. The woman succumbed to her injuries, while the man survived but was critically injured. Santiago’s confession and surrender came after she returned to Missouri following these incidents.

Reports indicate Santiago invited Huffman to her home under the guise of visiting their son. Once there, she allegedly told her child to cover their ears before executing her plan, pulling out a concealed revolver and committing the murder.

Aurora Police have suggested that Santiago’s motive for the attacks stemmed from ongoing custody disputes with her victims. Chief Wes Coatney remarked on the tragic nature of the situation and expressed relief that Santiago ultimately surrendered, though wishing intervention could have occurred sooner to prevent the violence.

Neighbors in the apartment building were taken aback by the violent event, with one neighbor recounting their daughter’s account of hearing disturbances from Santiago’s apartment. The incident left the community rattled and searching for answers.

Santiago also faced child endangerment charges because her young daughter was present during the Arkansas shooting, though unharmed. Neighbors expressed mixed views about Santiago, describing her as initially friendly before speculating about potential struggles she faced.
