Mother kills 8-year-old and drives around with lifeless body

HILEAH, Fla.: A mother in South Florida has confessed to meticulously planning the killing of her 8-year-old son, according to NBC Miami. Shaneka Ann McKinzie, 36, is currently facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of her son, Jaisyn Burgos. The tragic incident occurred when McKinzie brought the lifeless body of her son to Hialeah Hospital on Tuesday, where he was pronounced dead. A medical examiner later determined that the child had been strangled to death.

Law enforcement officials shared that McKinzie admitted to them that she had been plotting her son’s murder for the two days leading up to the incident. Reportedly, she waited until her son was asleep in the backseat of the car and used a tablecloth to suffocate and strangle him. In a shocking turn of events, McKinzie then proceeded to drive around various parts of the county, carrying out errands with her son’s deceased body still in the car.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin expressed his disbelief, stating, “It’s very difficult to wrap your head around how a parent could not only plan to murder their child but then, after carrying out this murder, go on about their day as if nothing happened. To drive around with their child’s lifeless body and complete various errands as if nothing ever happened. It’s unimaginable.”

The child was not attending school, and the duo had been living in various hotels. McKinzie, who is homeless and had moved to Florida from Missouri last year, has been denied bond. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy S. Glazer said that she believes the arrest affidavit shows probable cause for the charge of first-degree murder.

This heart-wrenching case has left an entire community in shock and mourning. According to Detective Andre Martin, the department is currently trying to determine a possible motive for this “heinous crime.” The detective went on to say that the murder of a child in any situation is a tragic thing to deal with.
