Mother Seeks Justice for Slain Football Star Son in Norfolk Trial

NORFOLK, Va. – A Virginia mother in Hanover County seeks justice for her son, who lost his life more than five years ago in a tragic incident in Norfolk. Nate Evans, a former standout football player at Lee-Davis High School, was fatally shot near Old Dominion University’s campus during what authorities described as a drug-related altercation.

The heartbreaking news of Nate’s death was delivered by Hanover County deputies to his mother, Brandi Evans, in March 2019. The devastating loss shattered her world, as she grappled with the unimaginable reality of her son’s untimely passing.

Despite the tragic circumstances surrounding Nate’s death, his memory remains alive in the hearts of those who knew him. As a sophomore at William & Mary and a running back for the Tribe, Nate was not only a talented athlete but also a young man with a passion for art, dreams of joining the NFL, and a gift for inspiring others to be their best selves.

Brandi Evans fondly recalls her son as a beacon of positivity, someone who could uplift those around him with his infectious energy and unwavering optimism. However, even in his positivity, Nate faced his own challenges, ultimately leading to the fatal encounter on that fateful night in March.

On the night of the incident, Nate was reportedly in the area to conduct a marijuana sale, which tragically ended in violence when the transaction turned into a robbery. In a heartbreaking turn of events, Nate lost his life while chasing after the perpetrator who had stolen from him, leaving his loved ones grappling with the senseless loss.

The arrests of Kri’Shawn Beamon and Keith Bryant Jr. in connection to Nate’s murder provided a glimmer of hope for justice, but for Brandi Evans, the pain of losing her son continues to linger. As Bryant’s trial is set to begin in Norfolk, she hopes that the individuals responsible for Nate’s death will be held accountable for their actions, bringing a sense of closure to a grieving mother yearning for justice.
