Mulga Man Arrested for Murder of Woman in Domestic Violence Incident

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. – A tragic incident unfolded in Mulga, Alabama this month, leading to the arrest of a man in connection with the murder of a woman. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at a residence on 2nd Avenue in Mulga, where they made a horrifying discovery on April 4. Deputies found Lakechia Bryant, 46, lying unresponsive on the floor, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Tragically, Bryant fell victim to domestic violence, according to authorities.

Following the discovery of the crime scene, a suspect, identified as 44-year-old Antonius Bonner, was believed to be in the vicinity, prompting law enforcement to issue a “Be On The Lookout” alert to the Adamsville Police Department. A subsequent encounter with Bonner led to a dangerous confrontation when officers attempted to stop a vehicle matching his description, resulting in Bonner firing shots at the police. Despite the threat, authorities managed to eventually stop Bonner’s vehicle after deploying spikes, leading to his apprehension. Bonner sustained injuries from gunfire during the confrontation and was promptly taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.

Currently, Antonius Bonner is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail facing charges of murder and parole violation.
