Murder Case of Bald Mountain Drive Takes Chilling Turn as Teens Certified to Stand Trial as Adults

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Newly released court documents in the Bald Mountain Drive murder case have shed light on a shocking turn of events. The two teenagers accused of carrying out a drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of one woman and the injury of another have been certified to stand trial as adults, according to records.

The attack, which took place in October 2022, has been described by prosecutors as a scene resembling a war zone, with over 100 rounds fired during the assault. Both defendants, Isaac Gonzales and Rene Joe Gonzales, were juveniles at the time of the attack but have now been charged as adults for their alleged involvement in the crime.

Isaac has entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 40 years for murder and 20 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, to be served concurrently. Meanwhile, Rene appeared in court facing murder charges and a possible additional charge for evading his GPS monitoring device while out on bond.

Court affidavits have revealed troubling details about Rene’s past behavior, including previous run-ins with the law and psychological evaluations describing him as “sophisticated and mature,” with a concerning understanding of premeditated violence.

The documents also indicate that Rene was caught on surveillance video discarding the clothing he wore during the attack, and his mother expressed concerns about his history of violent behavior and substance abuse. The affidavit further details the vehicle used in their escape being reported as stolen, resulting in a high-speed chase with law enforcement officers.

Isaac is set to return to court for formal sentencing, while Rene is awaiting his next court date. The case has brought to light the complex and troubling circumstances surrounding the young defendants, as the community grapples with the aftermath of the violent attack.
