Murder Charge Filed in Fatal Hit-and-Run on Preston Hwy

Louisville, Kentucky – A tragic incident unfolded in the Standiford neighborhood early Tuesday morning when a woman lost her life in a fatal hit-and-run while riding a bicycle. The Louisville Metro Police swiftly responded to the scene at the intersection of Preston Hwy and Durrett Lane at around 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of the victim, identified as Jennifer Lynn Davis, 39, by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office the following night. Statements from witnesses indicated that Davis was riding northbound on Preston Highway when a black pickup truck, also traveling in the same direction, struck her.

The driver of the vehicle, Juan Fernando Munzo Alcala, callously continued driving northbound without stopping after the collision. However, Alcala later phoned MetroSafe to confess his involvement in a crash on Preston Highway earlier that night, leading officers to the 3300 block of Preston Hwy where he was apprehended.

Following his arrest, Munzo Alcala faced charges of murder, wanton endangerment, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence, among others. He remains in custody on a $75,000 bond and is due to appear for arraignment on Wednesday, as the LMPD’s Traffic Unit spearheads the investigation into this tragic event.

The community is left reeling from this senseless tragedy as they mourn the loss of Jennifer Lynn Davis, whose life was cut short in such a heartbreaking manner. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible and safe driving practices to prevent future tragedies like this from occurring.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to help bring justice to the victim and closure to her grieving loved ones.
