Murder-Suicide Confirmed in Keyport Couple’s Death

Keyport, New Jersey – Tragedy struck a quiet neighborhood in Keyport as authorities confirmed that the recent deaths of a married couple were the result of a murder-suicide. On March 19, police responded to a wellness check call at the couple’s residence on Chingarora Avenue, where they discovered the bodies of 37-year-old Ekaterina Kalyapina and her husband, 39-year-old Ilya Gagin.

Alongside the deceased couple, authorities also found two small dogs unharmed inside the home, which were later taken into the care of the Monmouth County SPCA. Following an autopsy, investigators determined that Kalyapina’s death was a result of homicide, while Gagin’s death was ruled a suicide.

The tragic incident has left the close-knit community of Keyport reeling, as friends and neighbors attempt to make sense of the shocking turn of events. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Keyport Police Department are urging anyone with information to come forward, in hopes of shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
