Murder-Suicide Leaves Rockland County Community in Mourning

NEW CITY, N.Y. – A Rockland County community is grappling with the heartbreaking loss of the Morgan family in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide.

The entire Clydesdale Court neighborhood in New City has been plunged into mourning as a makeshift memorial outside the Morgan family home continues to grow. The memorial, adorned with photographs memorializing the lives of Ornela Morgan and her two sons, Liam and Gabriel, stands as a poignant tribute to the family.

Tragically, the same residence became the scene of a devastating incident over the weekend when the three family members were fatally shot in what police have determined to be a murder-suicide involving Watson Morgan, a sergeant in the Bronxville Police Department, who took his own life after the act.

The community has come together to grieve the loss of the family, with hundreds gathering at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack for a night of prayers and solace in memory of the Morgans. The church has become a place of support and comfort for parishioners as they process the tragic events.

The impact of the family’s loss has also been felt in the local school community, prompting counselors to offer support to students within the Clarkstown School District, where the boys were enrolled, recognizing the weight of this tragedy on the entire community.

The Reverend Richard Baker of St. Francis of Assisi expressed the community’s grief, saying, “So many people knew the family, and loved them, and had such great experiences of them, so it’s a tragic thing and it’s being felt.”

In response to the tragedy, a vigil for the Morgan family will be held tonight at Germonds Park in West Nyack, with the church planning a third service on Thursday evening to continue to offer support and comfort to the grieving community.

The Morgan family tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and its far-reaching consequences on families and communities. The community remains united in grief and in seeking support during this trying period.

As New City continues to mourn the loss of the Morgan family, the community is coming together to offer support and comfort to those affected by this tragic event.
