Nevada Teenager Faces Open Murder Charges, Allegedly Shoots Father and Younger Brother Due to Urge to Kill

RENO, Nev. – A 17-year-old Nevada teenager is facing open murder charges after fatally shooting her father and younger brother, court documents say. Mashenka Ann Marie Reid allegedly told authorities she “couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody.”

According to police documents, officers responded to a home in Stead on Friday after a neighbor reported hearing muffled gunshots and cries for help. Before police arrived, Reid herself called 911 to confess to the shootings, reportedly saying, “I just couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody.”

Upon arrival, officers found Reid’s father dead in the garage from multiple gunshot wounds and her 4 to 5-year-old brother dead on the living room couch from a gunshot wound to the head. Reid’s younger sister was found unharmed in a locked bedroom, and a handgun was found on the floor where Reid said she had dropped it.

Reno Police booked Reid on adult charges of open murder, which means the alleged crime could be first-degree murder, second-degree murder, or manslaughter. The tragic incident left the community in shock and raised questions about the teenager’s mental state and the factors that may have led to such a horrific act.

The motive behind the shootings remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities try to piece together what led to this heartbreaking tragedy. The case serves as a somber reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and intervention, especially among young people who may be struggling with internal battles.
