HICKORY, N.C. — Authorities have charged a Newton man with murder following a shooting that left one person dead and another injured outside a bar late Friday night. Lamonte Keshawn Ramseur, 25, was arrested in connection with the incident that took place around 11:13 p.m. in the parking lot of Windy City Sundries.
Responding to multiple reports of gunfire, police discovered two men with gunshot wounds. The first victim, 24-year-old Corbin David, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, 23-year-old Tanner Hutchinson, was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Investigators revealed that Ramseur, David, and Hutchinson were acquainted prior to the incident. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation as police work to piece together the events that led to the violence.
Law enforcement officials from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and the Newton Police Department assisted in Ramseur’s apprehension. He is currently being held without bond at the Catawba County Detention Facility and is scheduled for a court appearance on October 7.
