NYPD Commissioner Confirms Arrest in Bronx Attack on Off-Duty Officer, One Suspect Still at Large

BRONX, N.Y. — Authorities have apprehended one of the two suspects connected to the violent assault of an off-duty police officer in the Bronx during the weekend. Taveon Hargrove, 23, was taken into custody in Virginia by U.S. Marshals and officials from the New York Police Department, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed. His father, Jeffrey Hargrove, 55, remains at large despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement to locate him.

The attack on the 27-year-old officer occurred early Saturday morning as he was near St. Peter’s Avenue in Parkchester. As detailed by the NYPD, Hargrove and his father ambushed the officer, knocking him to the ground and assaulting him. During this brutal encounter, the suspects stole the officer’s iPhone, wallet, and, critically, his service weapon.

Following the attack, the officer suffered severe facial injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition following a visit from Mayor Eric Adams. The mayor expressed his support for the injured officer and his commitment to enhancing the safety of law enforcement personnel.
