Police-involved Shooting in Brooklyn Leaves Man Dead After Chasing Alleged Robbers, Sources Say

Brooklyn, New York – In a police-involved shooting in Brooklyn, a man was fatally shot after reportedly chasing two alleged robbers on Monday evening. The incident unfolded at Remsen Avenue and East 57th Street in East Flatbush around 5:50 p.m., as per the NYPD.

According to sources, a 19-year-old man and a woman were accused of stealing the wallet of a 20-year-old man. Subsequently, the 20-year-old man pursued the suspects, firing shots, leading to police intervention. “As the officers in the unmarked car arrived at the scene, they witnessed the shooter firing multiple rounds while chasing the suspects,” stated NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell. “Our officers swiftly responded and neutralized the threat, resulting in the fatal shooting of the male suspect.”

During the altercation, a 60-year-old bystander was hit by a stray bullet. The source of the bullet that struck the bystander remains unknown at this time, sources added. The 20-year-old suspect was shot by police and succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by authorities.

The 19-year-old male involved in the robbery was apprehended by law enforcement, who reportedly found the deceased 20-year-old’s wallet in his possession. Sources disclosed that he is facing charges of attempted murder, criminal possession, and robbery related to a separate assault incident on March 7. The female suspect was questioned and subsequently released, according to sources.
