OAKLAND PARK, FL – A pregnant mother of three was fatally stabbed inside her Oakland Park apartment early Tuesday, leaving a neighborhood in shock and a family shattered. The woman, identified by authorities as Fayanni Ramirez, was discovered with multiple stab wounds after first responders rushed to the scene following a series of desperate 911 calls.
Officials say the violence unfolded shortly after midnight on Northeast 41st Street, a residential area just north of Fort Lauderdale. Ramirez’s children, all present in the home at the time, were reportedly unharmed but are now left without their mother.
Authorities arrived to find a chaotic scene, with the suspect, 37-year-old Mario Alejandro Ramirez, wounded from an apparently self-inflicted injury. Deputies subdued and rendered aid to him as paramedics entered the apartment in an attempt to save Fayanni Ramirez. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators revealed that Fayanni Ramirez, whose age was not immediately released, was pregnant at the time of her death. She lived in the apartment with her three children and had an active restraining order against Mario Ramirez, underscoring a history of domestic violence.
Neighbors reported hearing distressing sounds in the early hours, with some recalling loud crashes and screaming coming from the apartment. One neighbor described seeing the aftermath as they passed the unit, recalling the grim sight through an open door.
Authorities said Mario Ramirez contacted emergency dispatchers during the incident, mentioning the children inside the home as tensions escalated. The motive for the deadly attack remains under investigation, with prosecutors saying that details are still being gathered.
Ramirez was taken into custody and appeared in court Friday for a bond hearing. He faces a count of dangerous and depraved murder without premeditation and remains held without bond at the Broward Main Jail. Furthermore, he is subject to an immigration-related detainer and has been ordered to undergo medical and mental health evaluations.
The killing has devastated the local community. Those who knew Fayanni Ramirez described her as a caring mother who devoted herself to her children, all of whom must now grapple with this profound loss. The three children are currently in the care of relatives under the supervision of authorities, as social services determine the best course for their future.
Law enforcement officials continue to piece together the events that led to the tragedy, focusing both on the history between the victim and the accused and the circumstances of that night.
