Robbery suspects involved in fatal crash

MIAMI, FLORIDA – A woman has been arrested by Miami-Dade Police in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in a southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood on Friday morning. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Dymariz Picon, was allegedly driving a pickup truck that collided with a van at an intersection, causing it to roll over. The crash resulted in the death of a passenger in the truck, 34-year-old Daniel Garcia, while two individuals in the van were critically injured.

The incident took place around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Southwest 21st Terrace and 92nd Avenue in the Westchester area. Video footage captured by a nearby resident showed the silver pickup truck and the white work van colliding at the intersection, revealing the severity of the wreckage.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials reported that the two occupants of the van, who were taken to a local hospital, were in critical condition due to the crash. Unfortunately, the third passenger riding in the silver truck, Daniel Garcia, did not survive.

Following the collision, Dymariz Picon and another individual who were inside the truck fled on foot, according to the police. “The wreckage of this traffic accident is pretty horrific, so there is a good chance that the two individuals who fled may be injured, but there’s really no way to tell until we locate those two people,” stated Miami-Dade Police Dte. Andre Martin.

Law enforcement officials have determined that the incident began with a theft at a convenience store. A Miami Dade School Officer was looking for the suspected thieves for running a stop sign and accidentally came across the accident scene. Picon was driving without a license and had previously been arrested.

Eyewitness Sebastian Lopez, who resides near the intersection, described being startled awake by the sound of the impact. “It sounded like a bullet. It was crazy,” Lopez said.

Several parked cars were hit when both vehicles spun out of control. The other person in the truck still remains on the loose, and police are asking for witnesses to come forward. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
