Russian Court Sentences Daria Trepova to 27 Years in Prison for Pro-Kremlin Blogger Murder in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – In a recent court decision, Daria Trepova has been handed a 27-year prison sentence for the murder of Vladlen Tatarsky, a pro-Kremlin blogger who was killed in a cafe explosion in St. Petersburg. Tatarsky, known for his strong pro-war views and occasional criticism of Moscow’s battlefield failures, was a prominent figure in Russia’s military blogging community.

The explosion took place during an event at the cafe in April 2023, resulting in Tatarsky’s tragic death. Trepova, who was suspected of providing the explosive device hidden in a statue, was promptly arrested following the incident.

Trepova’s husband, Dmitry Rylov, has expressed his belief that she was framed for the crime. Meanwhile, Tatarsky was an avid supporter of the war in Ukraine and gained popularity through his analysis and commentary on Telegram, often advocating for a more aggressive approach towards Ukraine.

Tatarsky’s online presence began in 2019 when he created a Telegram channel named after a character from a popular novel. His writings and previous military involvement in eastern Ukraine in 2014 contributed to his notoriety.
