Las Vegas, Nevada – Authorities at Lake Mead National Recreation Area are issuing a reminder for visitors to prioritize safety following a series of fatalities and accidents over the recent weekend. The park, situated on the border of Nevada and Arizona, attracts millions of visitors annually who engage in various activities such as boating, hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, and cycling.
The National Parks Service emphasized caution after six individuals lost their lives during the Father’s Day weekend, with incidents ranging from fatal accidents to drowning and suicide. In response, park rangers conducted 23 rescues, addressing situations including criminal activities like assault, theft, and drug use as well as unsafe incidents within the park.
Acting Superintendent Mike Gauthier emphasized the importance of safety and considerate behavior, particularly in light of the recent tragic events that have occurred at the park.
