FORT PIERCE, FL – What began as a bizarre scene on a quiet stretch of road ended with a chilling discovery and a family in mourning. Authorities say a Florida truck driver, spotted behaving erratically before dawn, now stands accused of murdering his own cousin and stashing the body beneath his semi-truck’s sleeping area.
Deputies responding to the early morning reports found Olson Jean, 41, lying and rolling on the asphalt, seemingly lost and incoherent. When confronted, Jean told officers he was simply “taking a breather.” His detached behavior belied the chaos that would soon emerge, as investigators pieced together a deadly encounter that shattered the peace of St. Lucie County.
Nearby, officers noticed a semi-truck parked unattended. When asked, Jean distanced himself from the vehicle, claiming no ownership or connection. Detectives, however, discovered the 2020 Freightliner was leased to Jean, contradicting his statement and raising further suspicions.
As the questioning intensified, Jean delivered increasingly evasive responses, at one point claiming that he was merely jogging in the area and lived “on the other side.” His efforts to deflect attention only deepened officers’ resolve to investigate the truck.
A closer inspection of the exterior revealed sinister stains — unmistakable traces of blood. Authorities obtained a search warrant and soon uncovered a gruesome scene inside. Hidden beneath the sleeper compartment, they found the body of Wendy Moncion, 32, reported missing by his family just days earlier.
The grim condition of the compartment left no doubt: blood covered the interior, evidence of a violent end. The medical examiner later confirmed Moncion’s death was the result of a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, and identified him as Jean’s cousin.
Police canvassing the grounds found a cache of firearms and magazines hidden near a canal — including a rifle and a handgun, their proximity and placement suggesting a deliberate attempt to destroy evidence. Both weapons matched items reported missing by Moncion’s relatives.
Investigators learned from family members that Jean and Moncion had traveled together from Georgia to Florida. Jean reportedly voiced paranoia about sleeping alone in his truck, prompting Moncion to accompany him on the journey, hoping to ease his cousin’s escalating fears.
Loved ones revealed that Jean’s behavior had grown increasingly erratic in recent weeks and that discussions about seeking mental health care had taken place. Moncion’s final communication with relatives was Jan. 15.
Authorities quickly arrested Jean, booking him into the St. Lucie County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. He remains held without bond, as detectives search for answers about what ultimately led to his cousin’s death.
The motives behind the tragic slaying are still unclear, and officials say their investigation is ongoing. For now, a family remains shattered as law enforcement seeks to understand how an act of loyalty ended in bloodshed.
