SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – In response to a recent surge in animal cruelty cases, Seminole County Animal Services has launched a campaign aimed at finding homes for senior dogs and cats in need of adoption. The program, known as ‘Seniors for Seniors’, targets senior residents over the age of 60. For the entire month of January, these individuals can adopt senior dogs and cats, aged 6 years or older, for free.
The initiative is designed to bring joy and companionship to senior citizens through the adoption of older pets. According to Animal Services Interim Manager, Steve Learner, senior pets can provide significant benefits to their owners. They can help lower blood pressure, establish routines, and keep individuals active in their day-to-day activities.
One of the senior dogs available for adoption is Vader, a 7-year-old canine who is ready to find a loving home. Learner encourages potential adopters to consider the unique qualities of senior pets, stating that they have often been through significant experiences and are eager to give love and attention in return.
Currently, there are three senior cats and three senior dogs available for adoption, with more expected to arrive soon. Animal Services encourages those interested in adopting a senior pet to visit their website for more information.
