MEMPHIS, Tenn.: A mass shooting at a car wash in Hickory Hill early Friday morning has left two men dead and three men severely injured. Memphis Police responded to the shooting at Miracle-Perfection Hand Carwash and Detailing on Riverdale Road around 12:05 a.m. A total of five men were found with gunshot wounds, and a vehicle was riddled with bullet holes.
One victim, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released. Four other men were taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition, but one of them later succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as 20-year-old La’Marrius Johnson, who also went by the name L.J.
The mother of Johnson, Anesha Mosley, expressed her grief, wondering why her son was at the car wash so late at night. Mosley said she had spoken to Johnson hours before, and nothing was out of the ordinary. She tearfully said, “You took my firstborn son away from me. The first that ever showed me true, true, genuine love. Y’all took my baby away from me. We just want to know what happened. Why? Why did you take my son from us?” Johnson was a father to a 2-year-old boy and a 2-week-old baby girl.
Jessie Mosley II also spoke while providing comfort to his wife. The Christmas season is less than two weeks away, and his son’s children are growing up without a father. “With all the senseless killings, and the killing of our son,” Jessie Mosley said. “It’s just an example of how soulless people are. It’s the saddest day of our lives.”
According to Memphis Police, the victims and suspects were acquainted with each other, suggesting that the shooting was a targeted attack. The identities of the injured victims, who are aged 19 and 21, have not been disclosed. No arrests have been made so far, and the police are urging anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
The authorities are working to provide updates on the condition of the injured victims while grieving families are left searching for answers and grappling with the loss of loved ones. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and law enforcement officials will continue their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
