Shooting at Super 8 Hotel in Cloquet Leaves Two Dead, Suspected Gunman Self-Inflicted

CLOQUET, Minn. – A shooting at a Super 8 hotel in Cloquet, Minnesota, resulted in the deaths of two individuals, as well as the suspected gunman, who police believe died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident was reported to authorities when an employee at the Super 8 hotel called 911 to report finding another employee who appeared to have been attacked. Police issued an active shooter alert for the area near the hotel and instructed residents to shelter-in-place. The situation was later deemed secure.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Additionally, a 35-year-old man was found dead from a gunshot wound in a car in the hotel parking lot. The suspected gunman, a 32-year-old man, was found dead outside the hotel with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a firearm was located next to him. Surveillance video confirmed the 32-year-old man as the shooter.

The identities of the victims and the suspect have not been released pending family notification. The motive for the shootings and any potential connections between the suspect and the victims remain unknown.
