Shooting Claims Former USF Star Brian Battie’s Brother in Sarasota

Sarasota, Florida – Auburn running back Brian Battie, a former standout at USF, was tragically involved in a shooting in Sarasota early Saturday morning, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Auburn University. Reports indicate that Battie was among the victims in a shooting that took place in the early hours on 17th Street in Sarasota.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., with Tommie Battie, 24, unfortunately losing his life in the shooting. Tommie Battie is identified as Brian Battie’s brother. Although the name of the other victims remains undisclosed due to Florida’s Marsy’s Law, it is known that four additional victims were transported to the hospital. Updates on their conditions have not been provided at this time.

A spokesperson for Auburn University expressed awareness of the situation and stated that they are actively gathering information regarding the incident. Sarasota officials mentioned that deputies swiftly responded to the Tallywood Centre Plaza and pronounced Tommie Battie dead at the scene.
