Shooting on Greyhound Bus Leaves One Dead, Suspect Arrested in Mississippi

Gautier, Mississippi – A tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning as one person was taken into custody following a fatal shooting aboard a Greyhound bus. Gautier Police Chief David Bever reported that law enforcement received a distress call around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night, alerting them to the violent event.

Chief Bever detailed that the bus was en route eastbound on I-10 when the victim succumbed to gun violence. Identified as 25-year-old Jay Jackson from Decatur, Georgia, the victim’s life was tragically cut short during the journey.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation disclosed that the alleged perpetrator, Rashaad Keimond Price of Slidell, Louisiana, instructed the bus driver to halt, facilitating his escape. The bus driver complied, dropping off the suspect near Exit 61 before proceeding to a nearby gas station on Gautier-Vancleave Road.

Tragically, officers discovered Jackson’s lifeless body on the bus upon arrival at the gas station. During the early hours of the morning, around 3:30 a.m., law enforcement located Price attempting to flee across the interstate. Without resistance, Price was taken into custody and now faces murder charges in the Jackson County Adult Detention center.

Price, 26, was promptly apprehended by the Mississippi Highway Patrol after the harrowing incident. Despite the gravity of the situation, Price was denied bail and is currently held in custody. It has been determined that the shooting falls outside of Gautier Police’s jurisdiction, prompting the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to lead the ongoing investigation into the tragic events that unfolded onboard the Greyhound bus.
