Shooting rampage in Doral, Miami leaves security guard dead and multiple injured

Doral, Florida – Authorities have identified the suspect involved in a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a security guard and injuries to seven other individuals in Doral, Florida, early Saturday morning. The suspected shooter, Jamal Wayne Wood, aged 37, was killed during a shootout with police officers at the scene. During the confrontation, a Doral Police Department officer was also shot and wounded. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. following an altercation among patrons at a local establishment, according to Doral Police Department spokesperson Alicia Neal.

The security guard on duty attempted to intervene in the situation but was fatally shot by the gunman, identified as 23-year-old George Alejandro Castellanos. When Doral police officers arrived at the commercial establishment, they encountered the gunman and engaged in a gunfire exchange. The shooting took place at the Martini Bar, a nightclub within CityPlace Doral.

During the shootout, six bystanders sustained gunshot wounds. A woman and five men were among the victims, with one individual listed in critical condition at Jackson Trauma Center and another critical patient taken to Kendall Regional Trauma Center. The remaining four victims were reported to be in stable condition. A nearby resident, William Suedois, described hearing the gunshots but was unable to pinpoint their origin, expressing his shock and fear over the incident.

Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez revealed that a year ago, officers had conducted an active shooter drill at the same establishment where the shooting occurred, emphasizing the importance of preparedness. The Miami-Dade Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are collaborating on the investigation to gather more information on the tragic event.
