Shooting Suspects Charged with Capital Murder in Frisco Walmart Incident

Frisco, Texas – Frisco police have made arrests in connection with a shooting outside a Walmart last year that resulted in the death of one man and injury of another. The incident, which occurred on November 15, 2023, involved the fatal shooting of Army veteran Zachary Lowe, who was leaving his job at the Walmart off Preston Road and Hickory Street when he was confronted by a gunman demanding money.

According to reports, Lowe, who was only 20 at the time, complied with the demands but was still shot twice in the back. Another victim, Dung Doan, a 62-year-old father of two who recently immigrated to North Texas from Vietnam, was also shot multiple times as he walked home after shopping at the store. Doan tragically did not survive his injuries.

Following a successful surgery, Lowe survived the ordeal while Doan succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Frisco police revealed that public tips led to the identification of two suspects involved in the shooting – 42-year-old Jhirrell Harris and 37-year-old Stephanie Gayden, both from Monroe, Louisiana.

Harris, who was in custody in Ouachita County Jail in Monroe on unrelated charges, was charged with capital murder, aggravated robbery, and aggravated assault. Detectives from Frisco traveled to Louisiana to deliver the necessary documents for Harris’s charges. On the other hand, Gayden was charged with capital murder and is currently held in Collin County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Assistant Chief Darren Stevens from the Frisco Police Department commended the detectives for their efforts in identifying the suspects and making the arrest. He also acknowledged the invaluable role of public cooperation in expediting the investigation process, emphasizing the crucial role of community involvement in maintaining safety.

Both Harris and Gayden’s legal representation remains unclear, as the severity of capital murder charges in Texas carries heavy penalties of either life imprisonment or the death penalty. The extradition process for Harris to Collin County is pending as authorities work to bring both suspects to justice for their alleged involvement in the tragic incident.
