Shooting Tragedy Strikes Lane County: Suspect Apprehended After Fatal Incident

EUGENE, Ore. – A tragic incident unfolded in a quiet residential neighborhood in Eugene, Oregon, when Lane County deputies responded to reports of a shooting that left two people injured. The situation escalated when one of the victims, identified as Melissa Holland, succumbed to her injuries.

According to officials from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. on April 24 on Cinnamon Avenue in Eugene. Deputies rushed to the scene where they found Melissa Holland with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save her, Melissa tragically passed away as a result of her injuries. The alleged suspect fled the scene in an older silver SUV before law enforcement could arrive.

In response to the shooting, the Eugene Police Department took swift action, closing off Willagillespie Road and Valley River Drive to secure the area and ensure public safety. Authorities formed a perimeter around the vicinity as they suspected the shooter had barricaded himself in a nearby apartment. Fortunately, all individuals involved in the incident were eventually located, and the situation was deemed under control with no further threat to the public.

The alleged shooter, identified as 20-year-old Izyk Paul Bartlett of Eugene, was apprehended with the assistance of the Eugene police SWAT team. Bartlett is now facing serious charges, including first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, and possession of a firearm as a felon. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the case remains under investigation to uncover further details surrounding the tragic events of that fateful afternoon.
