Shooting Victim Identified in West Birmingham Homicide Tragedy

Birmingham, Alabama – Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in a west Birmingham neighborhood as Anthony Lambert Jr., a 21-year-old resident of Birmingham. The incident occurred on Thursday around 4:20 p.m. in the 5700 block of Court I in Ensley, near Vinesville Road, Fairfield, and Miles College. Shot Spotter technology alerted authorities to shots fired, leading to the discovery of the victim in the front yard of a home on 58th Street.

According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, Lambert was found unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. Investigators revealed that there was an altercation between the victim and one or more suspects, but the specific details of the argument remain unknown at this time.

As detectives and officers conducted their investigation, a person of interest in the shooting expressed a desire to surrender, with the assistance of a relative who helped coordinate the surrender. While no formal charges have been announced yet, Fitzgerald mentioned that approximately 10 shots were fired during the incident, and it is unclear if there was any return fire.

Witnesses informed the police that there may have been more than one shooter involved in the fatal shooting. This tragic event marks Birmingham’s 42nd homicide of the year, with four cases ruled as justifiable and therefore not considered criminal. In Jefferson County as a whole, there have been a total of 61 homicides, including those within Birmingham.
