Soldier Charged with Murder in Death of 8-Month-Old Daughter

Fayetteville, North Carolina – A soldier stationed at Fort Liberty has been charged with the murder of his 8-month-old daughter, Misty Delatorre, whose death was deemed a homicide by the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s office in February 2023. Despite a year passing without any charges, Misty’s mother and grandmother never relented in their quest for justice.

Previously unreleased details have emerged, indicating that Misty was reportedly under the care of her father, Sgt. Gabriel Ceville, at the time of her death. Ceville, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, now faces charges that include unpremeditated murder, involuntary manslaughter, and domestic violence. Shockingly, the domestic violence charge is not related to Misty but instead involves another family member, described by Ceville’s defense as being linked to parental discipline.

Following a 911 call reporting Misty was unresponsive, she was airlifted to UNC Hospitals, where she succumbed to her injuries days later. The autopsy revealed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to her head and neck, with suspicions of foul play by law enforcement. During this tragic incident, Misty’s mother, Alina Delatorre, was located in California.

Two weeks prior to Misty’s passing, a Cumberland County judge awarded joint custody to both parents, underscoring the complexity of the family dynamics that could have potentially played a role in the tragedy. Despite initial reluctance to comment on the case, Ceville is now facing the harsh reality of the charges brought against him, refusing to engage in further conversation with the media.

For Misty’s grandmother, the recent charges against Ceville mark the beginning of a quest for justice that has consumed the family since Misty’s tragic and untimely death. As the legal process unfolds, the community waits for answers and closure in a case that has shaken many to their core.
