Son Arrested for Murder of Mother in Harris County Home

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the murder of his mother in north Harris County. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident took place on Verde Trails Drive in the 1000 block.

Deputies responded to a call at the location around 10 p.m. on Saturday regarding a person in distress. After an initial search of the area and discussions with neighbors, no unusual activities were observed, prompting officials to leave the scene.

However, an hour later, another alarm alerted deputies to return to the same location. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the garage door was open, prompting a more thorough search of the premises. Deputies found no signs of forced entry initially, but upon further investigation, they discovered the victim, Anna Iris Melendez, 52, deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Melendez, 27, was later apprehended after attempting to flee from HPD officers in connection with a traffic-related offense. He has since been charged with murder and is currently being held in the Harris County Jail.
